Lesley Flanigan: Resonances

Lesley Flanigan presents Resonances, a new performance for voice, speakers, electronic tone, and the resonance between.

The performance and installation feature a configuration of small wooden speakers that act as a choral ensemble staged in the centre of the space. Large, full-range amplifiers are positioned in the four corners of the gallery, wrapping the space in a moving wash of pure electronic tone. Inside the installation, the audience will experience a series of compositions that act as a meditation on how we listen. The work considers how we hear electronic tone and the fragility of the voice, as well as the physical qualities of amplification.

The performance takes place on October 21 at 7 PM.

Artist

Lesley Flanigan is a composer, vocalist and experimental electronic musician living in New York City. Using minimal electronics, microphones and speakers she layers tones of speaker feedback and her own voice with the remnants of amplification, to create haunting sound works.

Her work has been presented at major museums, performance spaces and international festivals including The Red Bull Music Festival at Saint John the Divine, New York; De Doelen, Rotterdam; Sonar, Barcelona; The Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, Chicago; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Kitchen, New York; The Broad Museum, Los Angeles; ISSUE Project Room, Brooklyn; TransitioMX, Mexico City; CMKY Festival, Boulder, Colorado; the Roskilde Museum of Contemporary Art, Denmark; and KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin. Resonances was commissioned by EMPAC, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center, New York.
